BAS Agent Act

Under the new regulatory regime for the registration of BAS agents, which commenced on 1 March 2010, bookkeepers must be registered in order to provide BAS agent services for a fee or to "engage in other conduct connected with providing such services."

However in order to register, a bookkeeper must hold a Certificate IV in Financial Services (Bookkeeping), or higher, and have undertaken at least 1,400 hours of relevant experience in the past 3 years.

People who are already qualified but want some help in starting their own Bookkeeping Business may attend the one day BIA Start Your Own Bookkeeping Business Workshop.


Where to take a class

You can take this course at our South Brisbane campus which is at 1407 Logan Road in Mt. Gravatt Central, ideally situated for both Brisbane CBD and Gold Coast students. There is plenty of free parking in the streets surrounding us.

STOP PRESS: In addition to our training centre at Mt Gravatt in South Brisbane, BIA Training now has a campus in Redcliffe and in Cleveland. This course is also available as a classroom course at our Perth campus in WA. Please contact Cheryl Knight of WiseClick Training for further details.

Statement of Achievement

The Bookkeeping Institute of Australia will issue a  Statement of Achievement upon satisfactory completion of this course.

This is NOT however a nationally recognised qualification and successful participants will NOT be entitled to any of the benefits of BIA membership.

BIA Membership is reserved for BIA graduates of our FNS40207 Certificate IV in Financial Services (Bookkeeping) qualification.

Course Convener

In Brisbane the course is lead by our Principal, Dennis Turner, who has successfully operated a contract bookkeeping business since the introduction of GST into Australia in 2000. including a year with a major Bookkeeping Franchise with over 50 franchisees.

Dennis has almost 20 years experience with GST and prior to coming to Australia Dennis held the position of Financial Controller for 5 years after owning his own computer business for 10 years. He has held a variety of accounting and IT management roles over the last 30+ years and is well qualified to run this course.
